Creekside Carnival

When you think of "carnival" you generally think of a traveling show where the people ride rides (or get taken for a ride), they play games that are nearly impossible to win, and spend enough money to have nearly bought a weeks worth of groceries. But not so with the annual Creekside Carnival!!

We spent Sunday afternoon finishing up preparations and having a great time with our community. We haven't counted yet, but there were probably in the neighborhood of 400 people to come through our carnival this year.

The Creekside Carnival happens each fall and doesn't cost anyone a dime to be a part of. People come from all walks of life to enjoy a day of fun, food, and festivity. We had hay rides, horseback rides, games to play, a small moonwalk, and a huge obstacle course. We served nachos and dip, drinks, and cotton candy. We provide stuffed animal, and trinkets to "win" at the games the kids play.

More than anything, the carnival is a time for us to give back to our community in a way that shows the love of Jesus with no strings attached. Several churches do this in our area from all religious groups and I think it's a good thing.

It does so many good things. It shows people who may be cynical about Christianity that not all of us have a hand out wanting something from them. It provides a safe place for children to play without fear. It helps families who cannot afford to go the fair or to amusement parks. It even helps those of us who put these kinds of event on to understand how blessed we are and as Jesus put it, "It's more blessed to give than to receive."

We grant all glory and honor to God who gives us the energy and opportunity to serve Him.
