Drive-Through Church

Time is a commodity that many of us struggle with having enough of. It is crazy too because of all of the conveniences we have now. It should be that we have more time, but it's just not true.

We were talking about this today at Creekside and one guy suggested that we have a drive through church (of course he was kidding), but I know some people who would really like it.

The conversation started when we were talking about giving our contribution through an "ATM-like" machine. Just swipe your card, punch in an amount. As it deducted your money it would also count you present for the service. Someone said, "Yeah, we could have a two window drive through with a communion window followed by a window where you could pick up a CD with songs and a sermon on it."

As silly as this seems, it is exactly how many people treat coming together for worship. They see it as something to get through with so that they can get on with life.

Coming together is so much more. It is a time when the body of believers come together to focus their attention toward God in a show of community, love, and fellowship with one another.

Someone asked me a few weeks ago if I believed that a person had to go to church. My reply was, "Yes I have to go to church." I need to be together with my family for the glory it brings to God and the encouragement it brings to me and others. I love it at Creekside when sometimes an hour after our services people are still talking with one another. It shows a genuine care and concern.

So, what are some of your ideas for the "drive-through church?" Who knows what great ideas we might come up with?

  • Drive-in church and drive through church - 2 different animals. Anyway, that's how Schuller got started, in a drive-in church.

As for drive through, one can hear the greeter say (unintelligably) You want a bulletin with that?

  • Thanks so much Keith! That was a great lesson. Sometimes in our hectic lifestyle we forget the meaning of worship. That that worship is attebding, giving, Communion. Worship is truely coming into the pressence of God. Swindle
