Perception and Reality
Saturday brought us a disappointing letter in the mail. As you know, we recently bought our first home. It was a very smooth experience as those things go. We looked for just a short time because we only had 30 days to look. The loan process was nerve racking, but never a glitch. The closing went great. We were all set.
Saturday we received a letter in the mail that told us our home owners insurance had been CANCELLED!! What?!! CANCELLED??? We couldn't believe it. Being Saturday we had to think about it until this morning. What would have happened if-- something had happened?? What could happen in a weekend right? The fact that I am typing this tells you that nothing happened.
This morning I called our insurance first thing. Without going into what would be boring detail, the letter was not a reality. We were never without insurance. Had something happened we would have been taken care of, but that was not our perception.
Isn't it amazing how perception is reality? The entire weekend felt like we were missing something. Until we knew the truth, we were stuck with our perception.
I guess the lesson learned here is (or at least one lesson I learned) the next time someone comes to me with a problem--even though I know it's not as bad as they think it is--that's their reality. Dealing with one another on a "not real" problem in many ways is no different than dealing with a "real" one. Perception is reality until it is realized. The bottom line in working with each other is still love. It is the key to relationships.

There are those of us in the church that have difficulty with this concept of perception. Several times I’ve been confronted by individuals who claim there are “many people” upset with _________. “Many” usually ends up turning out to be “them” and maybe one or two more individuals.

ps: is it me or are the letters in Word Verification starting to "say things" to "spell out messages"... seriously...I'm starting to "understand" Word Verification. Anyone Else?

I blame the coach for leaving such a young kid in to keep kicking and missing them. Miss one--OK, miss two--you're in trouble, miss three--I'm letting a cheer lead kick if I have to.
That kid came from our high school in Muscle Shoals. I was in the ofice the day coach Shula came and signed him. Pretty exciting for a Bama fan.
