Dealing With Hurt Feelings
Have you ever been hurt by someone you thought would never do such a thing? It is one thing to be hurt by people who are not close to you, but when it's a friend--wow it hurts badly. Handling it the right way can be difficult at best.
My first reaction is to lash out and fight back. How dare them to hurt me their "friend." Their acting more like a "fiend" than a friend.
Then comes the feelings of wanting to hurt back with the "silent treatment." This one really gets them. I'll just ignore them and let them feel bad for what they have done. Let them sweat for days about it. Trouble with that is you don't know if that hurst enough.
Maybe next comes the option of gossip and let others in on the pain. After all if I'm hurt bad enough, others need to comfort me and especially those who feel similar to how I feel about things.
No matter what the reaction it seems like we wait till the last option to do what the Lord has called us to do. It's easy to do all the wrong things, but it takes a Christ follower to realize that Jesus said to "love your enemies" and to "do good to those who persecute and spitefully use you." God has called us in a world of evil to come out and be separate based upon Jesus being our Lord. It is one of those easy to understand concepts, but difficult to do at best. God help us to do and to be our best in Jesus name!!

You hit a weak spot with me preacher. For some reason I'm wired high on the "loyalty" scale and when I perceive that someone has been less than loyal (what ever that is) to me, I have to fight my first impulse to switch into “silent / withdraw emotionally” mode. Thanks for reminding me to watch my faulty default program.

This really hit home with me. Yes, I was deeply hurt by a friend. We we traveling and staying together, with our husbands, in a small condo. Three of us tried to work it out with her. She refused to bend on anything. Finally I "blew my stack". Then, because I didn't want to do it again, I kept my distance, and became silent. My husband and I cut the vacation short and put out an extra $1500 to get home. I prayed (whined) about it and was told, "Be glad you have the money to go home!" That wisdom calmed me. The situation could not be resolved, but at least we were able to remove ourselves from it. Thank you God!
