Slow Down!

It's no wonder that people all around us are dropping with heart attacks and strokes. Just in the last month, I have heard of two men in their early forties falling dead with heart attacks. To my knowledge, neither of them had a prior medical history with any warning signs.

I think one of our problems is that we need to slow down. I just illustrated that to myself in a way that I'm sure none of you have ever done.

My computer is nearing hard drive capacity. Get this--2 hard drives--one is a 140 gig and the other 160 gig. One of you math gurus can figure that in bytes for us, but that is a lot of space. Anyway, my computer is taking longer to boot up. I'm not talking about hours longer, or even minutes longer. It's only taking seconds longer and it's driving me crazy! What an illustration of needing to slow down. It's just a computer for crying out loud!

Then there's driving. I don't know about your town, but around here people are trying to get there before they leave. It's like raceway pulling out into the road I have to drive on every day.

Psalm 46:10 says, "Be still and know that I am God." Let's all try slowing down today and see if we can survive. In the words of the late Mr. Rogers, "Can you say 'patience.' I knew you could." I know we can. We might even discover a peace that we haven't had in a while.

  • I needed that message. The driving part is what I have been struggling with, I fall into the want to get there before I leave category.

    Thanks,

  • In anticipation of the ZOE conference this weekend, I've been listening to a Randy Harris CD of his lectures at Pepperdine in 2004. I was so struck by his take on the current worship reform. He said it often seems "frantic." That we are trying to do so much more and, in so doing, find God in new ways.

He suggested we go the other direction and slow things down. "The Lord is in His holy temple," it says in Habakkuk. "Let all the earth keep silence before him."

  • How about the guy who had the heartache in the bar watching the Steelers on television this past week. He had his heartache right after Bettis fumbled on the goal line.

The ESPN Dan Patrick show hooked up a conference call between Bettis and the guy from the guy's hospital room.

  • Thanks for the comments Keith. Sunday Night was a very special service for Creekside. It will be one I will not forget for awhile. Keep The Faith

  • I heard that call Randy on the radio. You could hear the heart monitor in the background.

Yes Keith, we need to slow down. Now I have to hurry to pick up my son from Practice and head over to church.

  • To slow down - what a concept. It seems I've been in the slow or is that the lazy mode for months now. Actually, I have found things do go much better for me and the family when I do get in a slow mode. As for driving - I live in Talladega, and off the Atlanta 500 interstate - if that gives you an idea of driving around here. Computer wise, can't get any slower here in the boondocks.
